3 MVP’s in Atlanta Falcons week five win
By Nick Halden
1. Matt Ryan put on a clinic despite the fact he was playing the New York Jets
How great of a performance Matt Ryan had on Sunday will be dismissed by many based on the fact it came against the New York Jets. However, it is a performance that shouldn’t be underrated when you consider the degree of difficulty.
Sunday was the worst set of receivers Matt Ryan has been given in his career. While taking snaps behind one of the worst offensive lines he has been given as well. Ryan took what the defense gave him and finished the day tossing two touchdowns and passing for 342-yards against what had been a surprising Jets defense.
This game was about what Atlanta has, and New York doesn’t. Ryan put the team on his shoulders and won the game despite the underwhelming options he had placed around him. He utilized every player on his roster and most importantly led a game-winning drive to put it firmly out of reach.
For the Jets, Wilson ran around the field unable to connect when his receivers were open and flinging the ball into harm’s way. To say Ryan outplayed the rookie doesn’t fully convey just how soundly Ryan outplayed Wilson in a game that left hope alive for the Falcons and their fans in the weeks to come.
