Atlanta Falcons rookie Kyle Pitts finally catches first touchdown in London
By Nick Halden
The Atlanta Falcons rookie tight-end Kyle Pitts finally made it into the endzone on Sunday morning beating a Jets defender to give Atlanta a 10-0 lead at the time. The catch was a big milestone for a rookie expected to play a huge role in the red zone.
Matt Ryan badly needed Pitts to step up in this game with Atlanta coming into this game without their top two receivers. Of the two Calvin Ridley is the biggest loss as Matt Ryan’s preferred target.
On the drive leading to the touchdown, Lee Smith and Tajae Sharpe both had key catches to keep the drive alive and allow Pitts to score for the first time.
The Atlanta Falcons need continued production from unlikely contributors to win this game
Kyle Pitts qualifies as an unlikely contributor despite where he was drafted. Pitts has been underwhelming four weeks into the season and badly needed a breakout game against the Jets. Something the rookie has had thus far with Atlanta jumping out to an early lead behind Pitts and Matt Ryan.
Ryan has had a great game leaning on unproven targets putting together a huge first half alongside Pitts to give the Atlanta Falcons the lead. This is a game Atlanta was going to lean on Matt Ryan and Kyle Pitts and so far both have been up to the task.
For Pitts, this early success is a building block going forward Atlanta badly needs Pitts in the weeks to come to keep them in games. Unfortunately, Pitts will not be able to play the Jets every week and can use all the confidence Atlanta can give him going forward.
If he is able to build off of this performance and Atlanta can get Calvin Ridley back into the fold they will have an offense that can play with anyone. Something this team badly needs with a struggling defense.
