Atlanta Falcons front office must use their bye week to sign a receiver
By Nick Halden
One thing was very evident in the Atlanta Falcons 27-20 win over the New York Jets, this team is badly in need of receivers. The Atlanta backs and tight-ends did the heavy lifting and receiver Tajae Sharpe caught 4-passes to help the Atlanta offense in week five.
However, even when Calvin Ridley returns it is very obvious this team badly needs help at the position. Christian Blake, Russell Gage, Olamide Zaccheaus, and Calvin Ridley have all struggled this season.
Rookie Frank Darby seems to be a non-factor leaving Atlanta without a third option at the position with Gage still trying to prove he deserves the job behind Ridley. Matt Ryan is having a great season and certainly would benefit from them opting to add a capable target.
There are very few receiver options in free agency still, the Atlanta Falcons front office must take a chance and attempt to improve the position group
Calvin Ridley is going to shake off his slow start and come around this season it is only a matter of time. After Ridley Atlanta has nothing but questions about the position and must at least attempt to improve.
Olamide has struggled so far this season and needs to be replaced as the slot receiver/third option he isn’t capable of living up to expectations Atlanta had for him this season. Replacing him with a veteran via trade or free agency is a must if Atlanta hopes to continue to contend moving forward.
Matt Ryan isn’t going to be able to play the Jets and carry his team every week. He needs a better cast around him. Kyle Pitts, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Calvin Ridley are a good start, however, Atlanta needs one more receiver Ryan can count on.
Atlanta has a full week to figure a move out, a trade is the likeliest avenue when you look at the remaining free-agent options. Regardless of how they choose to accomplish it adding a receiver is absolutely a must before Atlanta returns from their bye.
