Atlanta Falcons: Kyle Pitts almost outgained Justin Fields in week 7
There has been a lot of controversy on if the Atlanta Falcons should have drafted Justin Fields over Kyle Pitts in the 2021 NFL draft, so far they have shown that they made the correct choice.
Justin Fields finally got the starting job in Chicago after Andy Dalton was the starter for the first few weeks of the season, and he has been up and down—but mostly down—while Kyle Pitts has been constantly improving every week.
Falcons rookie almost had more yards than Justin Fields had as a passer
The Falcons have officially started to use Kyle Pitts in his intended way, they are feeding him the ball like he is Julio Jones. It has been amazing to watch and the benefits are obvious for the offense.
Kyle Pitts, against the New York Jets, pulled in nine catches for 119 yards and a touchdown, and then followed it up with a seven-catch, 163-yard performance against the Miami Dolphins in week seven. Simply spectacular, there is no denying that.
For Justin Fields, it has been anything but spectacular. Against the Raiders—the same week the Falcons took on the Jets—Fields threw for 111 yards and one touchdown. That means Kyle Pitts had eight more receiving yards than Justin Fields had passing the ball, while also having the same amount of touchdowns. When you can compare a quarterback’s stats to a tight end’s, that is not good for the quarterback.
During this past Sunday, Fields threw for 184 yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Again, for everyone who wanted the Falcons to take Justin Fields over Kyle Pitts, Fields can hardly throw for more yards during an entire game, than Pitts can haul in as a receiver. You should never be able to compare the two.
Fields only threw for 21 more yards than Kyle Pitts caught in week seven, that is hardly impressive for Fields.
It is safe to say, the Atlanta Falcons made the correct decision to take Kyle Pitts with their fourth-overall pick. He has continually gotten better, while Justin Fields continues to struggle.
Obviously, the situations are different but Fields would still be sitting on the bench in Atlanta with the team being forced to rely on Calvin Ridley, who has been disappointing this year.
