There has been an update on the status of Calvin Ridley, and it is not surprising as he will miss more time from the Atlanta Falcons due to personal reasons.

The Falcons have made a move with him to clear up a roster spot while Ridley tries to get better

The Atlanta Falcons have now placed Calvin Ridley on the PUP list

The Falcons have officially placed Calvin Ridley on the “Physically Unable to Perform” list as he needs time off to get his mind in the right place. Being placed on the PUP list means he is out for at least three weeks, and after that, he is eligible to return.

It is a credit to Ridley for being able to see that he needs time and make the bold move to take the time off that he needs, he should not be suffering through the season as it helps no one, this is the best route he could have taken.

That does not mean the team is better without him because they are not, in fact, they are significantly worse even if he has not performed while on the field this season.

Just his mere presence on the field creates opportunities for other guys, as Ridley has shown he can torch defenses and be one of the top receivers in the entire league.

There are multiple guys who need to step up in his absence, starting with Russell Gage who has been fairly invisible while on the field this season. It has not been the type of year anyone would have envisioned from him, that must change soon, or else the team is in even more trouble than they already are.

Perhaps with Ridley being out at least three weeks, it could open the opportunity for Odell Beckham Jr. to join the team, do not fully count the possibility out.

We can only hope that Ridley heals up and the team does not suffer too much without him, he is a big piece of the offense but he is doing the right thing by taking a break.
