1. It should be very clear that Mike Davis is not the future at running back in Atlanta

Mike Davis seems to be a great fit with this team as a person and a personality in the locker room. However, his production on the field compared to his salary simply isn’t going to cut it. Too often Davis steps up to the line and into the arms of a defensive lineman.

Part of Atlanta’s problem has been terrible run blocking, but Davis deserves a large share of the blame. He has not found the same success that Patterson or even Wayne Gallman has in a limited role.

Whether in free agency or through the draft Atlanta needs to find another answer at the position. Last week against the Saints Davis average one-yard-per-carry.  While Patterson struggled as well he found other ways to contribute and had a rare off week out of the backfield.

This has become the norm for Davis and part of the reason Atlanta cannot hold onto leads. It is hard to keep leads in a passing league when you cannot run the football and play keep away. This off-season Atlanta needs to off-load Mike Davis and find another option at the position.
