3 Reasons the Atlanta Falcons cannot trade Matt Ryan
By Nick Halden
2. Have Falcons fans been paying attention to the rookie quarterbacks around the league?
Mac Jones has had his moments but is a part of a Patriots team that has been built around him and has one of if not the best coaching staff in the league. Outside of Jones, every rookie quarterback has looked completely lost at times.
Trevor Lawrence and Urban Meyer have managed to win two games but both have been ugly wins and Trevor has been very forgettable this season. Zach Wilson has been outplayed by both Mike White and Josh Johnson who is somehow still in the league.
The Houston Texans won their first game with Tyrod Taylor at the helm before turning it over to rookie Davis Mills who was as bad as a quarterback can be and was quickly replaced as soon as Taylor was healthy again.
We have seen only glimpses of Trey Lance but so far he has been underwhelming in limited action. The Chicago Bears finally put Justin Fields in over Andy Dalton and Fields has shown promise but looked like a rookie struggling to get his best receiver involved and often making terrible mistakes.
Wilson and Lawrence have a combined three wins so far this season. The point here is drafting a rookie quarterback is painful and Atlanta would see a huge regression in quarterback play compared to what they currently get from veteran Matt Ryan.
Not only that but you are taking a huge risk that you won’t swing and miss at the most important position on the field. We have seen this with the Rams and Jared Goff and the Eagles and Carson Wentz. Even if you land a player with a lot of talent it doesn’t mean it is going to work out.
