Trent Murphy

Trent Murphy falls into the large group of players who have had solid but unspectacular NFL careers but he could still benefit the Falcons. As a defensive end, he would actually be a pretty big upgrade for the Falcons, though. The numbers aren’t breathtaking, 191 tackles and 26 sacks in six seasons won’t get fans out of their seats, although his nine sack season in 2016 was impressive.

Murphy is an all-rounded player though, who is capable of pressuring quarterbacks and holding up against the run. He has plenty of NFL experience, having played in 86 games in a career that started with the Washington Football Team and took him to the Buffalo Bills.

Dean Pees likes to shuffle his responsibilities and signing Murphy would take some pressure off Steven Means, who has been playing far more often than he should be. Murphy would be a good addition to the defensive line rotation.
