The Carolina Panthers just got a bit better after bringing back veteran Cam Newton in a surprise move. One that should have the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints just a little uncomfortable.

While both the Falcons and Saints sit ahead of the Panthers in the standings both have to feel a bit uncomfortable after this move. For the Falcons they know what Cam Newton is capable of and still have to face the Panthers once more this season.

The fact the Panthers managed to beat them with Sam Darnold should worry Atlanta even more that they have made an upgrade who can help the Panthers win more games than they would have.

Cam Newton deserves respect from this division but he isn’t the same player he once was for Carolina

Newton coming back to Carolina feels right for both sides watching Newton play for the Patriots last season always felt odd.

From Atlanta’s perspective, this makes beating Carolina a bit harder than if Darnold or P.J. Walker were under center. However, Cam isn’t the elite quarterback he has been in seasons past and will likely need time to get in-game shape and back up to speed.

Cam was waiting for his perfect opportunity at coming back into the league and proving he wasn’t done after a rough ending with the Patriots. From a story perspective, there couldn’t have been a better way or a better fit for Cam to come back into the league.

Carolina is a team he pushed into the relevance and willed into a Super Bowl despite his forgettable performance against the Broncos.

How much of a vintage Cam he can recapture back in Charlotte is anyone’s guess. Carolina still has to play Tom Brady twice and is facing Arizona this weekend. He will have his hands full and be thrown straight into the fire if he were to start this week. Atlanta should certainly be watching closely as Cam heads back home.
