Atlanta Falcons cannot afford Matt Ryan’s consistent turnovers

Matt Ryan deserves very little blame for just how terribly the Atlanta Falcons season has gone. The Falcons have given Ryan little pass protection and even fewer weapons. Ryan is relying on a utility player in Cordarrelle Patterson and a rookie in Kyle Pitts to make plays.

If Patterson and Pitts are not both on the field and making plays this offense is going to struggle. The receivers cannot separate and Atlanta hasn’t had a prayer of running the ball. Ryan is under immense pressure both in the game and mentally.

Ryan is being asked to carry a bad Atlanta roster and because of this, the quarterback is pressing. It has been obvious over the last few weeks Ryan takes hit after hit and late in games is throwing interceptions trying to bring his team back, something the Falcons and Ryan cannot afford.

If you turn on the tape and watch Ryan’s turnovers there is an obvious trend with nearly every single interception. Ryan’s receivers cannot get open and Matt is trying to force it into a tight window to will his team back into a game by making throws that simply aren’t there.

Ryan has thrown four interceptions in his last two games to go along with two from Josh Rosen in relief of Ryan.

Atlanta is far too talent deficient to overcome any time Ryan isn’t perfect much less turning the ball over with regularity. With very winnable games on the upcoming schedule, Ryan cannot continue to throw the ball to the wrong team even if it means letting drives die and bringing the punter out.

As painful as it may be for Ryan and the Atlanta offense unless a receiver is wide open or named Patterson it is often going to be better to call the play loss rather than risk the continued turnovers Matt has struggled with over the last three weeks.

The Atlanta quarterback certainly isn’t the problem in Atlanta but his turnovers are contributing to it. Something that simply cannot happen for the best player on the Falcons roster.
