2. The Atlanta Falcons defense put together their best game against the New England Patriots in an impressive effort

What is getting lost in the Atlanta Falcons 25-0 loss to the Patriots is just how great Atlanta played defensively. Challenged by their defensive coordinator and given slightly new schemes Atlanta came out and gave rookie Mac Jones a lot of trouble.

Jones was coming off of blowing out a far superior Cleveland Browns defense.  Despite dealing with Ryan’s turnovers and consistently being put in poor field position this Atlanta defense fought and kept this a 13-0 game very late into the second half.

A Patriots defensive score and a turnover on downs changed the narrative a bit for Atlanta. This game was about their offensive ineptitude and for once not about their defensive issues. It is hard to keep a game well within hand when your offense puts you in a bad position and cannot sustain any drive.

We saw this wear down the Atlanta defense late in the game but it doesn’t change the growth and effort this defense put on tape. Watching the game back it is all the more impressive the number of times Atlanta needed a stop and found a way to get pressure on Mac or make a tackle. Against a bad Jacksonville offense, Atlanta has a chance to build on this and show growth.
