The Atlanta Falcons are a great fit for former Titan Adrian Peterson

The Atlanta Falcons‘ ineptitude when it comes to rushing the football has been on full display over the last two seasons. Free-agent addition Mike Davis has failed to come in and balance the offense as expected his shortcomings have been blatantly obvious you can read a bit more about the problems with Davis here.

Cordarrelle Patterson is banged up and Atlanta is searching for contributors on their roster to rush the football. At this point, Atlanta is content if they find a back that can get the ball past the line of scrimmage.

It is time for Atlanta to look outside of their roster and consider a veteran like Adrian Peterson. Peterson is coming off of a short stint with the Titans that saw the veteran score once and average 3.0-yards-per-carry.

Adrian Peterson makes the Atlanta Falcons marginally better and might find a way to bring Atlanta’s offense a consistent short-yardage back

Adrian Peterson finished his three games with the Titans rushing for 82-yards and was less than impressive resulting in his release. However, Peterson’s history and ability demand the Falcons take a look at the veteran when you consider their current options.

Could Peterson truly be any worse than Atlanta’s current options? Patterson is a utility player and isn’t going to be in the backfield full time. Atlanta needs a back who can come in and get a hard-earned yard or provide a bit of pass protection.

This is an Atlanta offense that resorted to handing the ball off to fullback Keith Smith to attempt to get a key first down. This tells you just how little trust Atlanta has in any of their current options at the position.

Peterson isn’t anywhere close to the player he once was but he cannot be worse than any running back Atlanta has rostered.

While it seems obvious Atlanta isn’t going to make the playoffs they are still technically in contention and should make every move they can to improve. Even out of playoff contention perhaps Peterson can take a bit of the load off Matt Ryan something no other back on their roster has been able to do. Atlanta should give Peterson another chance to extend his career and attempt to improve an abysmal rushing attack.
