Atlanta Falcons put together impressive first half against Brady’s Bucs
By Nick Halden
The story of the Atlanta Falcons’ first half against the Tampa Bay Bucs was a rushing offense that had been missing this season and a big touchdown catch from defensive lineman Marlon Davidson.
Against one of the better run defenses in football Cordarrelle Patterson and Mike Davis had an early answer to the Bucs’ initial touchdown drive. Patterson finished the first half with 66-rushing yards while Davis added in 29-yards and a score.
On their first offensive drive of the game, Atlanta drove the ball straight down the field and set the tone for how this game was going to play out in the first half. Unafraid to run the ball Atlanta caught Tampa off guard and has kept themselves close at the break.
Unfortunately for Atlanta, they were unable to slow down Tom Brady who was able to drive the ball down the field at will. Giving Tampa the 20-17 lead at halftime, with Atlanta set to get the ball coming out of the half.
Tom Brady gave the Atlanta Falcons all the momentum heading into halftime tossing a beautiful touchdown to Marlon Davidson
Brady’s success worked for Atlanta to end the half, however, the Bucs weren’t content to take a ten-point lead to the half and tried to start a drive deep into their own territory. Enter Marlon Davidson, staying hungry and chasing down a screen to the running back Marlon scooped the soft pass and walked into the endzone to give Atlanta all of the momentum and belief headed into the half.
For Davidson, this is the second big play he has made against the Bucs getting home and helping put Brady on the ground in their first matchup of the season.
Headed into the second half Atlanta has put themselves in a position to shock Tom Brady’s Bucs. It would be Matt Ryan’s first win against Brady and put Atlanta firmly in the wild card discussion.
