7 round mock draft: Atlanta Falcons select high upside QB prospect
Round 4, Pick 111: John Metchie III (WR) – Alabama
If John Metchie is available for the Falcons to select with the 111th overall pick, they have to take him, his upside is way too high.
About a week ago it would have seemed impossible for Metchie to last until the fourth round, however, he tore his ACL against Georgia, making his stock decline significantly if he does not decide to stay for another year at Alabama.
You know there is a history of success for former Alabama receivers in the NFL, the list is a mile long.
John Metchie would provide elite speed in the open field, allowing Arthur Smith to do some special things with him. It would be extremely exciting to see Kyle Pitts, Justyn Ross, and John Metchie catching passes from Matt Ryan.
If there is a way for Atlanta to steal him in the fourth round, they must take advantage.
Round 5, Pick 149: Josh Jobe (CB) – Alabama
Two straight picks have the Falcons taking Alabama players, but this time they steal from the defense to add some much-needed depth to the secondary.
Jobe is the prototypical raw cornerback, but one that has all the traits you look for in a developmental prospect—Speed, size, and he plays hard.
As Pro Football Network says, he is also a tenacious player:
"Jobe is a fighter. He’s extremely physical, and his mentality is one of ultimate resolve. While this mindset can lead to recklessness, it’s hard to teach the alpha mentality. Some cornerbacks have it, while others don’t. In short, Jobe has it."
That certainly would get any coaching staff excited when evaluating a late-round prospect like Josh Jobe.
Round 6, Pick: Bo Nix (QB) – Auburn
If the Atlanta Falcons are looking to take a late-round flier on a potential developmental quarterback, they should look no further than Bo Nix from Auburn.
Bo Nix is an electric player who gets out of sacks like no one else. Look at his highlights and you will see numerous plays where any other quarterback would have been sacked, but somehow he manages to get out of it.
Bo Nix has supreme athleticism, he allows you to run read options or designed quarterback runs, he is a strong guy who will give his best effort to get out of sticky situations, and he also has a great arm.
Now there is a reason he will not be drafted high, and it comes down to the fact that he throws some horrible passes every once in a while. This, however, is something that could be corrected and he would benefit greatly from playing behind a veteran like Matt Ryan for a couple years.
Perhaps one day, Bo Nix could potentially become the next big thing for the Atlanta Falcons.
