1. Cam Newton has been set up for failure attempting to improve a struggling Carolina offense

Cam Newton coming back into Carolina was one of my favorite stories of the NFL season. Sure the Panthers are bitter rivals and Cam has at times embarrassed the Atlanta Falcons. But you can’t help but have a measure of respect for the player and gamer Cam has been through his career coming back to Carolina and taking over from Sam Darnold Newton had a chance to right the ship and push this team into a final wildcard begging to be won.

Instead, Newton had his return spoiled by the Washington Football Team in a thrilling back-and-forth contest only to be blown out and benched against the Miami Dolphins. His storybook return has veered away from the happily ever after ending Panthers fans were hoping for and quickly veered into frightening Stephen King territory.

Cam still isn’t an elite passer and needs a good system around him to succeed. Carolina has a bad offensive line and a limited rushing attack Newton cannot carry this team and while he will improve his struggles will continue when you look at the turmoil within the organization.

Newton is a better quarterback than Sam Darnold, however, he hasn’t had the benefit of having been in the system or learning the playbook for a full season. He has been back in the league for three weeks and is being asked to elevate a struggling roster. Carolina is asking far too much of a quarterback who still should be a starter in this league.

One thing the Atlanta Falcons should know is that you can never count on stopping Cam Newton. Cam is a winner who isn’t a prototypical quarterback but a great leader who wills his team to win. However, Carolina has brought Newton in late into the season facing a great deal of turmoil something that at least for this week will continue to limit Newton’s abilities in an offense he has been thrown into and this works heavily in the Falcons’ favor.
