3 Things the Atlanta Falcons learned in their win over Detroit
By Nick Halden
1. Kyle Pitts flashed his potential and reminded the league just how great he is going to be
Cordarrelle Patterson had a rare quiet day after an early fourth-down conversion/touchdown Patterson disappeared. In his place, Kyle Pitts stepped up and had one of his three biggest games of the season.
Pitts finished with 6-catches and 102-receiving yards though the numbers do not fully illustrate the impact Putts had on this game. When the Atlanta offense needed a key conversion or a clutch play more than not it was Kyle Pitts making that play.
Kyle put himself in a position to set the record for most receiving yards by a rookie tight end surpassing Keith Jackson and Jeremy Shockey in his impressive performance. Kyle Pitts is already a star in this league despite Atlanta’s issues.
One can only imagine the numbers Pitts could be putting up if Atlanta had capable pass protection or receivers helping to distract the defense from Pitts. Atlanta’s best receivers this season have been Tajae Sharpe and Russell Gage. Neither player is going to scare opposing defenses and have allowed a lot of focus to shift to Pitts. Finding the rookie tight-end a bit more help has to be the focus of the Atlanta off-season.
