Despite no playoffs, the Falcons have plenty to play for
The Atlanta Falcons are not going to the playoffs after they lost to the Buffalo Bills. It is a sad fact, but also the truth.
On the surface, it would look like the last game against the Saints has no meaning, but that is anything but the case, they have a lot to play for.
The Atlanta Falcons need to treat week 18 as their playoff game
The Atlanta Falcons will wrap up their season at home against the New Orleans Saints, and ironically enough, the Saints are still in contention to make the playoffs but they must beat the Falcons.
The Falcons have the prime opportunity to send the Saints packing for the season—that alone is enough reason to play this game like a playoff game. These two teams hate each other and nothing would feel better than knowing that the Falcons ruined the Saints season.
We all know that New Orleans will come out swinging, they want to make the playoffs even if there is little hope for them to make it deep into the postseason. What would be better than knowing the Atlanta Falcons ended their bitter rival’s season?
There is another reason Atlanta must play their best game, they have an opportunity to sweep the Saints for the first time since the 2016 season. This would happen the season after the Saints swept the Falcons.
Any Falcons fan knows how much it would mean to sweep New Orleans, it is a bragging right for the offseason. It basically tells them that they are a much worse team. We have all heard enough talking from Saints fans, so it is time to do the talking during the offseason.
So, despite no playoffs, the Atlanta Falcons have the ability to bring down their bitter rivals with them, and they can also get bragging rights until they play each other again next season.
