Looking at the list of players the Atlanta Falcons have under contract for next season one thing is very obvious. The Falcons are going to need their young roster to develop and improve if they are going to take a step forward next season.

With their 2022 opponents already set Atlanta knows they won’t have the fortune, they did during the 2021 season. They were given matchups with nearly every team in the bottom of the league. Only the Texans escaped Atlanta’s schedule when you compile a list of the worst teams of 2021 every other team was seemingly on the Atlanta schedule.

If Atlanta is going to build upon a seven-win season they are going to have to be active in the draft and free agency and hope their existing roster takes a step forward.

For this Atlanta Falcons team to match this season’s success they will not only need a strong off-season but impressive in-house development

While this approach will work for the majority of Atlanta’s roster it is worth noting that players like Mike Davis and Jalen Mayfield should be moved on from. Despite the fact Atlanta needs to develop their own talent and remain patient they also cannot ignore obvious answers.

Mayfield and Davis were both a part of the problem in Atlanta this past season not the solution. Mayfield was destroyed in pass protection and Davis was unable to help Atlanta establish the run despite his impressive ability to pick up the blitz Mayfield often let through.

Patience with their young roster is important but for Mayfield and Davis Atlanta should have seen enough.

For the rest of the starting roster, Atlanta must remain patient and hope these three players in particular take a step forward next season.
