3 Easy cuts to save the Atlanta Falcons over $8 million in cap space
By Nick Halden
1. Cutting Kendall Sheffield saves Atlanta nearly $2-million in cap space
Kendall Sheffield plays hard and has been a core member of the Atlanta Falcons secondary. A secondary that has been in the bottom of the league with regularity. There is little reason to keep Sheffield when you are already one of the worst teams against the pass in the league.
Moving on from Sheffield creates valuable cap space Atlanta can use to replace him or to address issues elsewhere. Even if they don’t bring in another option moving on from Sheffield allows you to play and develop younger players and see what you have.
There is little reason to stick with Sheffield aside from the fact there isn’t anyone behind him that is proven. This is the exact reason they need to move on from a player who simply put isn’t getting it done.
Cutting him also opens up a spot in the rotation for a player Atlanta could opt to take in the draft or an aforementioned veteran in free agency. Regardless of the reasoning behind the decision moving on from Sheffield and using his cap space elsewhere is the right move for a franchise that cannot get any worse against the pass.
