5 Atlanta Falcons who cannot be traded this off-season

3. Jake Matthews is highly paid but Atlanta cannot afford to lose him
At first glance, Jake Matthews is a player the Falcons could consider moving on from to improve their future cap space. However, Matthews is one of only two offensive linemen who should be locked in as starters for next season and the Falcons cannot afford to change that.
The job Jake Matthews did during the 2021 season is often lost due to the mess he had around him. Lining up with Jalen Mayfield and Matt Hennessey made it hard to decipher exactly what type of season Matthews is having.
Atlanta cannot afford to lose Matthews and for the next two seasons need to attempt to build their line with him locked in as a starter. Jake played an integral role for Atlanta the last time they truly had success and is capable of playing that same role again if Atlanta can find capable pass blockers to line up next to him.
Losing Alex Mack has impacted Atlanta more than any recent departure including Julio Jones when you consider where they are in their respective careers. Mack was the glue that helped the offense work and his departure hurt Atlanta’s ability to run a consistent offense.
