Cordarrelle Patterson was a spark for the Atlanta Falcons this season. Kyle Pitts and he were the two keys to the offense having success. Unfortunately, there is a chance his career in Atlanta may end after just one season.

He is due to be a free agent, so he can obviously negotiate with any team when the tampering period opens up, but if he wants to sustain his renewed success he must sign a long-term deal with the Falcons.

Cordarrelle Patterson’s long-term success rides on him signing with the Falcons

Cordarrelle Patterson had an interesting ride in the NFL up until he signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons last offseason. He was always looked at as an afterthought on offense while being a key player on special teams.

Drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2013 draft, Patterson never produced like a first-rounder. He ended up leaving the Vikings after four years and played for the Raiders, followed by the Patriots, Bears, and finally the Falcons.

Cordarrelle was not ever able to break his career-high 627 all-purpose yards from his rookie season in the NFL, at least until he found Arthur Smith where he put up almost double that with 1,166 total yards.

For a player with his talent, you would expect that he would have been able to put up 1,000 yards with one of the first four teams he played with but it never happened, he was basically a special teams player for each of those teams.

So, if Atlanta is the only place he has been able to have huge success, why would any expect him to be able to continue his success outside of Atlanta?

Arthur Smith has proven to be the only coach that has been able to unlock Patterson’s full skillset, which is probably why he has made it publically known that he wants to finish his career with the Falcons.

Needless to say, Patterson must stay with the Falcons if he wants to continue his success.

It is a different story on if the Falcons will offer Cordarrelle Patterson enough money to stay with the team, and only time will tell but hopefully, they do not allow their do-it-all weapon to leave and potentially fizzle out.
