The Atlanta Falcons are certainly not in dire need of a quarterback and no one is questioning who will be the starting quarterback to start next season, but that does not mean they should not be evaluating all options.

One option could be making a blockbuster trade for one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league, ignoring all the off-the-field trouble he is in right now.

Falcons should take a hard look at trading for Deshaun Watson

The Falcons are currently tied to Matt Ryan’s contract, any way you look at it they will be paying a lot for him, even if he is not on the team anymore. That is a huge issue in trying to trade for someone like Deshaun Watson who already signed a mega-deal just a couple years ago.

However, in the NFL you can always find a way to maneuver the salary cap, just look at the Saints who somehow get out of a worse situation every year. The Falcons could find a way to pay for Deshaun Watson, but they would be paying a ridiculous amount of money for quarterbacks.

Moving on from the money factor, no one can deny how incredible Deshaun Watson has played in the past, he is simply one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league. Many forget how special he is due to his absence from the field.

Watson could singlehandedly transform the Falcons offense, and this is not a slight to Matt Ryan but Deshaun can cover up a lot of weaknesses that the team has.

Just remember how he was able to take the Texans to the playoffs despite having one of the worst offensive lines in the league.

Now just imagine what he could do when you pair him up with Arthur Smith, the potential is through the roof.

If Atlanta were to trade for him, they would also be stealing him away from a couple division rivals who have been rumored to be in the mix for Deshaun Watson—the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It is an unintended benefit that would help slow the progression of those two teams.

Deshaun Watson is also from Georgia and even worked as one of the Falcons ball boys while in high school, so you know he would love to come back to Atlanta.

All in all, it is unlikely to happen due to money restrictions but Deshaun Watson could turn the Falcons around and make them contenders again.
