3. Cornerback

This was a toss-up between running back and cornerback, but running back is a much easier position to fix, especially if the team resigns Cordarrelle Patterson.

Cornerback was a surprise for the Falcons in 2021. They had the league’s best corner in A.J. Terrell, a viable starter in Fabian Moreau, and then a quality slot cornerback for half of the year in Isaiah Oliver—then it was a mess in the slot after his injury.

But if you look at the position now, it is a totally different story.

  • A.J. Terrell
  • Darren Hall
  • Avery Williams
  • Kendall Sheffield
  • DeAundre Alford
  • Lafayette Pitts
  • Cornell Armstrong

Essentially you can sum this position up in five words: A.J. Terrell and the rest.

We all know the type of player Terrell is, but having Darren Hall and Avery Williams complimenting him is not a good scenario. Hall and Williams were pushed into a position they should not have been in as rookies, they took turns as the team’s slot corner, along with Richie Grant.

They did not play that great, and then you have Kendall Sheffield who fell off a cliff after his rookie season, followed by four players who are signed to futures deals.

The Falcons must find at least one other starter at the position, preferably through free agency where you can find a veteran who has experience.
