The Atlanta Falcons made their first big move of the off-season locking up star kicker Younghoe Koo with a five-year deal that locks up an important position for Atlanta. Koo is directly responsible for winning three games for Atlanta last season a feat considering how the 2021 season went for Atlanta.

Koo’s five-year deal makes him the second-highest-paid kicker behind only Justin Tucker. It is well deserved considering how important he is to this team and how reliable he has proven to be. Locking him up for the next five years was a great move for a team that now can focus on finding receivers and improving the trenches.

Koo’s contract is worth $24.25-million a well-deserved raise considering Koo’s value. This is Atlanta’s biggest move thus far in free agency. They have already lost Foye to the Jacksonville Jaguars leaving Cordarrelle Patterson as the biggest target Atlanta still needs to retain. Finding weapons to put around Ryan and Patterson and replacing Jalen Mayfield are all paramount to Atlanta taking a step forward next season.

It appears that Ryan will already be dealing with a completely new receiver group with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley gone and Russell Gage sitting in free agency. Bringing back a player that Ryan had a lot of chemistry with is the next move Atlanta should make as free agency gets underway it is time to bring back Patterson.

Younghoe Koo hit on 93% of his field goals and moved his career average north of 90% speaking to his consistency and how much he deserved this contract. Acquiring and locking up the kicker is one of the few moves that Atlanta has made that should be universally lauded.  Koo has and will continue to win games for an Atlanta team that couldn’t have found a better successor to Matt Bryant.
