2. Tank the 2022 season in hopes of finding your next franchise quarterback

This Atlanta Falcons roster isn’t ready to compete in the playoffs right now whether or not they land Deshaun or if they kept Matt Ryan. No matter who else Atlanta brings in they don’t have the system or players in place just yet to get back to the heights they found in 2016.

With this in mind, if Atlanta doesn’t land Watson they could commit fully to a rebuilding year. Trade Matt Ryan for picks to a place that will support the veteran and start a bridge quarterback. This would allow Atlanta to trade veterans and acquire draft assets for next season with the focus being finding their next franchise quarterback.

This is a desperate and risky move for a front office that would willingly be going in the wrong direction. However, if they lose out on Watson what moves do they have left? Which free-agent quarterback is going to come in and replace Ryan?

Going into full rebuild mode allows Atlanta a chance at Bryce Young next season as well as collecting picks and cap space for next season. Rebuilds are painful but if you’re Atlanta it is without question an option for a team that seems directionless.
