5 Moves the Atlanta Falcons could make to convince Ryan to stay
By Nick Halden
5. Draft a number one receiver to replace Calvin Ridley
Calvin Ridley’s poor decision leaves the Atlanta Falcons currently without a number one receiver early on this off-season. Even after signing Hooper and Jones Atlanta still needs to continue to improve at the position.
Whether in the first or second round the Falcons must address the position. Last year Atlanta left Ryan with Russell Gage and Tajae Sharpe as his primary receivers. Gage had a great last half of the season and earned him a great contract with Tom Brady’s Bucs this off-season. However, Gage had a very slow start to the year and Sharpe isn’t a starting receiver in this league.
Atlanta has plenty of options in free agency and through trades and left Ryan without consistent options. Atlanta needs to show Ryan this won’t be the case if he is willing to return next season. The first step is signing Julio Jones or perhaps Jarvis Landry to provide a consistent veteran target. The next is drafting a receiver and developing at a position Atlanta has no answers for until Calvin Ridley is able to return.
