3 Reasons the Atlanta Falcons shouldn’t trade for Baker Mayfield

3. It would be a terrible look for the Falcons to spend on Baker and Mariota after trading Matt Ryan for very little
The Atlanta Falcons received a third-round pick in exchange for a quarterback who had started for fourteen years and won an MVP in route to a run to the Super Bowl. It was a steal of a trade for the Colts and left the Falcons with very little to be excited about. Drafting a kid on day two isn’t going to help offset the loss of one of the best players in franchise history.
Spending assets to trade for Baker shouldn’t be on the table when you got so little in return for Ryan. The focus should be on trading players for assets and working on building your team for the future. As mentioned trading for Baker is a move for a team that is looking to win right now. That doesn’t describe Atlanta and the team should be squarely focused on adding more picks and finding bargains in free agency.
Baker Mayfield isn’t the answer for the Atlanta Falcons and in truth may not prove to be the answer even with a functional team. Spending to find that out is the wrong move at the wrong time for a team that will be better served to bring in a veteran-free agent capable of replicating this same production.
