3 Reasons Matt Ryan should be headed to the Hall-of-Fame
By Nick Halden
3. When Ryan’s career is over how can you keep him out of the Hall with the company he will be in?
Matt Ryan is currently 8th on the all-time passing yardage chart trailing only Phillip Rivers, Dan Marino, Ben Roethlisberger, Brett Farve, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady. If he remains healthy over the next three seasons when all is said and done Ryan will end his career in the top five. If his career ended today he would be a top ten passer in nearly every major category.
He should pass Rivers and Marino in yardage this season and could pass Roethlisberger this year with a great season. If not Ryan will easily pass him during the 2023 season and end his career as a top-five passer of all time.
There is no argument against the numbers Ryan has put up. If you want to argue they are empty and take a “count the rings” argument approach that is valid. However, even this argument doesn’t take away the numbers he has put up and they should put him in the Hall alone whether or not you believe they translated to winning football.
When all is said and done Ryan will have done his job at a level only four other players have been able to surpass when it comes to longevity. This isn’t to say Ryan is a top-four quarterback of all time, that wouldn’t be anywhere close to factual.
What it does point out is the great career Ryan has had, one ring shouldn’t be the difference between being in or out of the Hall when you consider the career accolades and accomplishments Ryan has put together. Pair this with the lack of support he has often had throughout his career and the leader he has been and there shouldn’t be a debate, Matt Ryan clearly belongs in the Hall of Fame.
