There is no other way around it, the Atlanta Falcons just got fleeced for Matt Ryan. They just traded their most outstanding player in franchise history for much less than what the Colts got for Carson Wentz.

Terry Fontenot will have to answer for this one because even if they had no leverage, w

Falcons fail as they get a third-round pick for Matt Ryan

Quarterbacks are valuable, but obviously, the Atlanta Falcons do not think that as they have traded their greatest quarterback in franchise history to the Colts, in exchange for a third-round pick………. yes, just a third-round pick. This is simply jaw-dropping.

This tweet says it all, there are simply no words to describe how bad Terry Fontenot has messed this up.

Then you look at what the Rams gave up for Matt Stafford, who did not have the pedigree that Matt Ryan has right now. Obviously, that changed with the Super Bowl victory, but back when the trade happened, that was not on his resume.

The Rams gave up two, first-round picks, a third-round pick, and Jared Goff for Matt Stafford. Meanwhile, in Atlanta, they just got a third-round pick and just about $8 million in cap space, but $40 million in dead cap.

This is a massive failure by the Falcons front office, and it might just go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history. They just traded Matt Ryan for a player who in all likelihood will be a depth piece for whatever position they decide to use the pick on. Maybe, just maybe, they get lucky and manage to get a Pro Bowl player out of the pick, but the odds are against them.

Keep in mind that Terry Fontenot’s only third-round pick was used on Jalen Mayfield—the worst starting guard in the league last year.

When looking at it, the Falcons might have just traded their greatest player in franchise history for Jalen Mayfield. That is a monumental failure by the front office.

And do not even bring up the topic of leverage because the Falcons had much less leverage with Julio Jones last season but were still able to get a second-round pick out of him.

It has been said numerous other times, but this is just ridiculous. They should have held onto him, even if they had to pay the roster bonus and forced the Colts to up their offer.

Next. Falcons should draft one of these two players. dark
