2. Kaleb McGary hasn’t proven he can play at a consistent level

Kaleb McGary is interesting in the fact he is still a relative bargain at just over $3-million and there is an argument he could develop further. There is also the fact that he has been a disappointment thus far and failed to live up anywhere close to expectations. Too often he has been a part of the problem on the offensive line and not a part of the solution.

Jalen Mayfield’s rough rookie season helped to cover up what was a year to forget for McGary. Trading McGary saves Atlanta just around $2-million giving them a bit more cap space and the chance to start over at the position. Chris Lindstrom and Jake Matthews should be the only starters that are locked in for this offensive line. The rest of the group should be in flux with Atlanta using the draft or free agency to attempt to find long-term answers.

With a mobile quarterback now in Mariota Atlanta will be able to cover up their offensive line issues a bit better but it remains a problem they have to address over the next year. Trading McGary would be a surprise but it would be a step in the right direction and continue Atlanta’s trend of throwing away this season and setting themselves up for 2023.
