3. It is time to trade or extend Grady Jarrett

Grady Jarrett has been a rare bright spot for the Atlanta defense over the last three seasons. He is the one player you can count on to do his job every snap and to make a big play. The problem for Jarrett is the fact he is now Atlanta’s highest-paid player on one of the team’s weakest units. The move for Atlanta is obvious here they must extend Jarrett and move the money or they need to trade him in the final year of his deal and acquire more draft assets.

For Jones and McGary the market is likely to be a late-round pick with very limited interest in two players who have struggled over the last year. For Jarrett, it is fair to think Atlanta could swing a day two pick and give them their sixth selection in the first three rounds.

This is a move Atlanta has to think about carefully, however, as the chances of replacing Jarrett with that pick are slim at best. Jarrett is a great player who can still contribute at a high level. Because of this it wouldn’t be shocking to see Atlanta opt to extend Jarrett on a cap-friendly deal one that creates more space this season and gives the team a bit more room to work.
