Marcus Mariota was the second-overall pick for a reason

The Atlanta Falcons now possess the second-overall pick of the 2015 NFL draft, that alone will get some fans excited. It shows that they have a talented player, even if it is a player who has underachieved during his career.

In what was a disappointing time as a Titan, Mariota went on to become the backup quarterback of Derek Carr.

Carr is much like Matt Ryan, you either think he is really good or really bad, just depending on the fan, but no one can argue that he has not been successful in his career. Well, Marcus Mariota has benefitted from sitting behind a good quarterback like Carr for two years. That perhaps allowed him to take a step back and refine his game.

After all, he has or had the talent to be the second player taken in a draft, but can the Falcons unleash that talent in full force? That is something that Arthur Smith will have to work hard at doing.

It is still exciting to think about as he could potentially be entering a turning point in his career where he finally shows why he was such a high overall pick.
