The Atlanta Falcons have made yet another signing as they continue to bring in value-free agents to help fill out their depleted roster.

They are bringing in a veteran offensive lineman who has spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and the Chicago Bears. Again, Ryan Pace has brought another connection to the organization after spending time as the Bears’ general manager.

Veteran OL Germain Ifedi agrees to terms with the Atlanta Falcons

Many Falcons fans might recognize the name Germain Ifedi, especially from his time in Seattle when Russell Wilson was constantly being beaten up game after game.

Ifedi will be 28 years old by the time the season starts and will be entering his seventh year in the NFL.

He has been a versatile piece for the right side of the offensive line as he has constantly switched from being a right tackle to being a right guard year by year. Ifedi originally started out as a right guard in Seattle then played right tackle mostly for the three years after, before splitting time at the two positions in his first year in Chicago, followed by playing only right tackle in his shortened season last year.

He brings some versatility to a side of the Falcons’ offensive line that has a lock-down starter in Chris Lindstrom at right guard and a very average starter in Kaleb McGary at right tackle. It seems like that Ifedi will be in play to take over McGary’s starting role come training camp. In a shortened season last year, he was a better pass protector than McGary was.

Germain Ifedi might, in fact, be the new favorite to be the starting right tackle in Atlanta, pushing former first-round pick, Kaleb McGary, out of the role.

Could we perhaps finally see McGary move inside and become a guard? It certainly seems like a plausible scenario.
