3. Committing to a full rebuild

Since the 2018 season, it has been clear the Atlanta Falcons were in cap trouble and needed to start over. Poor drafting and even worse contracts left the team with consistent high dead cap hits and very little room to make a move in free agency. While some of their decisions along the way have been very questionable rebuilding is the right call.

Atlanta hasn’t ever recovered from their Super Bowl blunder and needs a fresh start. The team lacks star power or the capital to acquire it. The front office has made the right moves to make sure Atlanta only spends one painful season of rebuilding before having a myriad of options.

Plenty of 2023 cap space and great draft positioning will give the team a chance to turn the corner and become a contender again.

The one head-scratching part of the rebuild was their willingness to chase Deshaun Watson despite the concerns surrounding the quarterback. Being willing to mortgage your future for Watson was concerning considering the team’s need to rebuild the roster completely. Despite the inconsistent messaging rebuilding is the right decision for a team that was long over due to start over.
