Despite what the front office may tell you, it is clear the Atlanta Falcons are focused on the draft and building for the 2023 season. The massive dead cap hits that Julio Jones and Matt Ryan still have, left the Falcons with few moves to make in free agency. Despite this, the team was creative and found a way to bring in veterans and bring back impact players in Younghoe Koo and Cordarrelle Patterson.

The Patterson deal in particular was impressive considering it is team friendly and keeps Patterson with the team for the next two seasons. Giving Atlanta a chance to have Patterson in a 2023 season that should be the year they attempt to make moves to contend.

There are three teams in the league clearly in a worse position than the Atlanta Falcons

With two strong draft classes and with nearly $100-million to spend the Falcons will have a chance for a quick turnaround.  For now, however, the Falcons are stuck in the misery of a rebuild. Looking around the league the Falcons and their fans can take comfort in the fact there are teams in a worse position than Atlanta. The Falcons have building blocks and future cap space, not all teams in the league can say the same.
