The Atlanta Falcons have focused on their secondary heavily during the off-season as they have made numerous moves that would lead you to believe they will avoid taking a cornerback with their top pick.

The Falcons already had one of the NFL’s elite corners in A.J. Terrell then they added Casey Hayward and resigned Isaiah Oliver, forming a formidable trio of cover corners.

The Atlanta Falcons could still grab a top corner with their eighth-overall pick

Derek Stingley and Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner are regarded as being the top two corners in the draft, with the moves the Falcons have recently made it has led fans to believe there is no hope that they would draft either of these players if available at pick eight.

However, you should reevaluate that notion.

We know that A.J. Terrell is one of the top players at his position after a breakout season in 2021, he will be atop the depth chart come week one.

Terry Fontenot made a great move when he signed Casey Hayward to a favorable deal. Many fans are locking him in as the second corner on the depth chart, but he could end up being the team’s slot cornerback with Isaiah Oliver providing depth if Atlanta drafts Stingley or Sauce.

You should not be sold on the depth that the Falcons currently have at cornerback. Recently signed Teez Tabor and Mike Ford have not been star players during their careers. The Falcons could still use some better quality depth at the position. By adding one of the top corners in the draft, they can achieve that.

As well as, are we really totally sold on Isaiah Oliver being a good starting slot corner? There is still reason for some hesitation, certainly having Casey Hayward move back to the slot like he was during the early stages of his career, would be better than having Oliver there.

So, do not totally count out the Falcons taking a corner with their eighth-overall pick, they could still use some depth at the position, plus it would be hard to pass up Stingley or Sauce, provided they are available.
