3 Former Atlanta Falcons the team will miss most in 2022
By Nick Halden
1. Matt Ryan
Atlanta Falcons fans are in for a rude awakening as to just how much Matt Ryan did for this offense and the franchise as a whole. Marcus Mariota isn’t in the same conversation as Ryan and is being handed what appears to be a worse roster than Ryan had in the 2021 season. An accomplishment when you consider it was Russell Gage and Tajae Sharpe starting at receiver for Ryan during the second half of the year.
Until they find their long-term answer the franchise is going to miss the quarterback that brought stability and gave them a consistent chance to win. Watching Ryan find success and contend with the Colts isn’t going to make it any easier for a team stuck in irrelevance.
Ryan struggled during the 2021 season in front of a terrible offensive line and given little help his numbers and play regressed. Still one of his worst seasons to date is more than enough to easily beat anything Marcus Mariota has put on tape. This speaks both to the quarterback Ryan is and the significant downgrade that Atlanta is heading into the 2022 season with. One that will help them earn a top-five draft pick and put the team another step closer in the rebuild.
