3. Jameson Williams

To be clear selecting a receiver with the 8th overall pick was always the wrong move for Atlanta. However, if the Falcons were going to select a receiver in the first round they should have chosen the best prospect at the position in Jameson Williams. Williams would have followed in the footsteps of Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley as former Alabama receivers to be drafted by the Atlanta Falcons.

Williams is coming off of a serious injury that will likely keep him sidelined well into the season.  If not for the injury it seems likely that Williams would have been a top ten pick. Even with the injury, the Lions selected Williams 12th overall bringing in a receiver they can build around long term.

This is a lost season for Atlanta who is likely headed into the season with Marcus Mariota as their starting quarterback.  If they were going to make the mistake of drafting a receiver Atlanta should have brought in Williams and allowed him to slowly get healthy building an offense around Williams and Kyle Pitts. Drake London is a player who will have an instant impact but long-term Williams was a better option who could have stepped in and replaced Calvin Ridley long-term for Atlanta.
