On the heels of the draft, the Atlanta Falcons released Mike Davis, Willie Beavers, and James Vaughters in an effort to create cap space. Atlanta not only needs the cap space to sign their rookie class but to bring in veteran additions to fix roster issues the team couldn’t address in the draft.

Atlanta has $4.8-million in available cap space pointing to the fact that any deals are going to have to be bargain contracts. Atlanta cannot afford to sign any of the remaining top free agents. They will need to look for a veteran looking for one last chance or a player looking to rebuild value with a team that can give him a larger role.

The Falcons aren’t signing one of the top remaining free agents, however, fans should expect the team to remain active. After the draft, the Falcons will be out of the quarterback market with Desmond Ridder and Marcus Mariota both on the roster.

However, the team still needs help at safety, receiver, guard, and edge rusher. The team will likely look to bring in veterans to bring in and compete with their current options. Receiver is one position in particular that the Falcons still badly need to find help at.

Drafting Drake London is a step in the right direction,  however, Atlanta lacks a proven receiver behind the rookie and should bring in at least one veteran. Olamide Zaccheaus shouldn’t be a starting option, Atlanta needs a reliable option behind London that Ridder or Mariota can rely on.

Looking at the guard position Atlanta needs to replace Jalen Mayfield and currently, Justin Shaffer is the only obvious competition. It wouldn’t be at all surprising to see Atlanta bring in a veteran guard to compete with Shaffer and Mayfield.

Despite the fact the draft and first wave of free agency are behind us the Atlanta Falcons aren’t done making moves. This team still has too many issues to address and must continue to find ways to create cap space.
