The Atlanta Falcons have made some questionable decisions in past NFL drafts but that doesn’t appear to be the case with a 2022 NFL Draft class that appears to be a home run. One thing that seems to happen more often than not is the Falcons finding some real deal value in the back half of the middle to late rounds. The Atlanta Falcons made three picks between rounds five and six (they didn’t have any seventh-round picks). While Justin Shaffer and John Fitzpatrick will be welcome additions to the roster, there is one player that’s giving off Grady Jarrett-like late-round talent vibes and that’s Tyler Allgeier.

The Atlanta Falcons cut Mike Davis, the former Panthers running back; who many thought would end up as the primary back for the Atlanta Falcons. However, once Cordarrelle Patterson came into the mold and ended up being the best player on the Falcons last season, Davis became expendable. Davis wasn’t the best free-agent signing the Falcons could have made, however, at least they didn’t go the traditional vet looking to prove he still has it route.

Allgeier becomes the perfect compliment for Patterson in the backfield and also allows the Falcons to be even more versatile on offense, potentially having both on the field at the same time. What does Allgeier bring to the team? Well for one, he’s a willing pass protector, which is always welcome in this offense.

Allgeier is also a patient runner that allows his block to develop before making a move. He’s not the most explosive runner but he’s not here for that. Allgeier will make his money between the tackles and punishing would-be defenders trying to bring him to the ground.

Allgeier has a chance to be a three-down back for the Atlanta Falcons in the future. The Falcons have hit on Grady Jarrett, Damontae Kazee, Russell Gage, and Foye Oluokun in the late middle to late rounds of the draft. Just like these guys, the opportunity will be there for Allgeier to join this select group of Falcons draftees.
