On the heels of adding former Chicago Bears GM Ryan Pace to their front office, the Atlanta Falcons have signed a myriad of former Bears. While the majority of the signings have been nothing more than depth pieces there is one former Bear who would be an impactful addition.

Akiem Hicks is one of the best free agents left on the market and has obvious ties to the Atlanta Falcons. With Atlanta’s trend of signing former Bears and the fact, that Ryan Pace appears to have some level of influence within the front office signing Hicks wouldn’t be at all surprising.

Hicks may not be the impact player he has been in years past, however, when healthy he still can have an impact and would be a great fit for Atlanta. The biggest issue for the Falcons on both sides of the ball is the fact they could never win in the trenches last season.

Whether along the offensive or defensive lines they were beaten with alarming consistency. Hicks would help Atlanta change that fact giving them another impact player to pair with Grady Jarrett. Jarrett and Hicks when on the field together would solve Atlanta’s issue stopping the run as well as giving their pass rush a much-needed boost.

At this moment it appears T’Quon Graham, Anthony Rush, and Marlon Davidson would be the key contributors in the middle of the line alongside Graddy Jarrett. All three players are coming off of average seasons and could easily be replaced by Akiem Hicks. Allowing Hicks and Jarrett to start and using Davidson and Rush as relief from the bench would be a great scenario for the Falcons.

Atlanta has roughly $13-million in available cap space which should be more than enough to sign Hicks considering where he is in his career. Signing him to a two-year low-risk deal would be the best-case scenario for a team whose one remaining off-season priority should be to get better on the defensive and offensive lines.

Hicks fixes one of these issues and continues Atlanta’s off-season trend of signing former Chicago Bears.
