One year ago, the Atlanta Falcons signed Cordarrelle Patterson expecting him to give the team a huge spark on special teams as well as a bit of production on offense. Little did they know he would become one of the team’s top offensive threats.

Going into the 2022 season we should be on the lookout for another player to break out just like Patterson did, but this time at a key position on the defensive side of the ball.

The Falcons will have a breakout star by the name of Lorenzo Carter in 2022

The Falcons signed pass rusher Lorenzo Carter to a one-year deal back in March, as they expect him to be a big piece for the pass rush that looks awful on paper.

For Atlanta’s defense to have success this year, they will have to get surprise production out of a couple of their pass rushers, like Carter.

Lorenzo Carter was a third-round pick by the New York Giants coming out of Georgia back in 2018. He was somewhat of a disappointment in New York as he has only tallied 14.5 sacks over four seasons.

Last year, he did not have the best start to the year as he did not record a single sack until week 15 against Dallas, a game in which he finished with two sacks. Over his final four games last year he had at least one sack in each game, proving that he can be a consistent threat off the edge.

Talent is not the issue for him either, he is listed at six-foot-five and 250 pounds and was able to run the forty-yard dash in just 4.5 seconds.

On the website Mockdraftable.com, they most closely compare him athletically to Brian Burns, Josh Sweat, and Danielle Hunter. Those are three of the best pass rushers this league has to offer.

So, with a seemingly bigger role with the Falcons, watch out for Lorenzo Carter to start the season the way he ended last season, by putting up sack numbers on a week-to-week basis. He will be one of the biggest breakout players of the year.

Next. Kyle Pitts might be the best receiver in the NFL. dark
