The Atlanta Falcons announced this week that former fourth-round pick John Cominsky had been released after just three seasons. It was not hard to see the writing on the wall for Cominsky, it was obvious that this move was coming.

Cominsky now represents the fourth player of the 2019 draft class who is no longer with the Falcons after just three years.

Outside of one selection, the Falcons’ 2019 draft was a disaster

Going into the 2019 NFL Draft, former Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff was focused on upgrading the offensive line after it had been a huge problem for them the past few years.

They addressed the line with their first two picks, as they took Chris Lindstrom and then traded back into the first round to take Kaleb McGary. Those two are the only two picks by the team that have been on the roster ever since they were selected.

Here is the full list of the Falcons’ 2019 draft class:

  • Round 1, Pick 14: Chris Lindstrom – OG
  • Round 1, Pick 31: Kaleb McGary – RT
  • Round 4, Pick 111: Kendall Sheffield – CB
  • Round 4, Pick 135: John Cominsky – DE
  • Round 5, Pick 152: Qadree Ollison – RB
  • Round 5, Pick 172: Jordan Miller – CB
  • Round 6, Pick 203: Marcus Green – RB

Chris Lindstrom, Kaleb McGary, and Qadree Ollison are the only players left from that draft and it is worth noting that Ollison has been cut multiple times but made his way back onto the team. He will have to make an impression in the preseason as he is in the middle of a crowded running back room.

Marcus Green was never able to make the final roster and is not in the league anymore, Jordan Miller was let go at the end of 2020 and is now with the Saints, Kendall Sheffield was released recently, and now John Cominsky is on his way out.

It is worth wondering if any of these players, other than Chris Lindstrom, will even be on the roster a year from now.

Qadree Ollison has a tough road to even make the roster this year while Kaleb McGary has been quite bad through his young career and did not have his fifth-year option picked up.

There is one huge bright spot in this draft class and that is obviously Chris Lindstrom who has been one of the best at his position over the past couple of years. He is on his way to earning himself a massive contract in the very near future.

High praise for Falcons new WR. dark. Next
