Atlanta Falcons fans have seemingly been the only ones who realize the truth that A.J. Terrell is the NFL’s best cornerback. Some fans have no idea who he is despite the fact that he is unarguably among the elite at his position.

Terrell was simply sensational in what was only his second season in the league. He is young and still learning all the ins and out’s of playing the cornerback position in the NFL. The sky is the limit for the Falcons young star and he might finally be getting the recognition he deserves.

Next Gen Stats has the Falcons superstar as the league’s top CB

The Atlanta Falcons might not be the best team just yet, but that does not mean they don’t have one of the NFL’s top players.

NFL.com put together an article that shows the rankings of Next Gen Stats’ top coverage players of 2021.

A.J. Terrell was put at the top of the list making him the best coverage player in the world and here is what his NGS stats were and what the writer, Nick Shook, had to say about him:

  • Catch rate allowed below expectation: -14.6%
  • Passer rating allowed: 49.9
  • Tight window pct: 30.1%
  • Average separation: 2.7 yards
  • Target rate: 14.8%
  • Targeted expected points added: -29.4 (best in NFL)

"The expectations for the Falcons might not be high entering 2022, but we should all make it a point to closely watch Terrell this season. While Atlanta fought to be a competitive team in 2021, Terrell blossomed in a significant way. He posted league-best marks in a number of categories, including completion percentage allowed (41.1 percent) and yards allowed per target (4.1). Terrell performed at an elite level in only his second professional season, boasting a coverage success rate (the percentage of targets that result in a successful play for the defense) of 68.5 percent (best among qualifiers). He has an incredibly bright future ahead of him."

Those are some advanced stats which is exactly what Next Gen Stats is known for.

Many know that there is much more to the game of football than just a player’s stats, and NGS is one of the most reliable and most advanced stat trackers. If they say that A.J. Terrell is the best, then he should be considered the best.

The Falcons have a player on the defense to build around, and the scary part about him is that he is just getting started in the NFL.
