With Drake London, the Falcons should extend Calvin Ridley
Prior to Calvin Ridley’s ridiculous indefinite suspension by the NFL, the Falcons were reportedly trying to trade him, and it was said that they had a trade in place with the Philadelphia Eagles.
While we know that we will not see Ridley for at least another year, the Falcons, whenever they get him back, should try to secure him for the future to pair with Drake London.
The Falcons need to pair up Calvin Ridley and Drake London for the long run
Over the past few years the times that the Falcons’ offense was most deadly, they had both Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley healthy and on the field.
Why is that? Julio Jones fills out as the physical receiver, while Ridley is the finesse receiver for the offense.
When Julio Jones was out of the lineup in 2020, Ridley was able to put up great numbers, but during his shortened 2021 season, he was extremely underwhelming as he was constantly bullied off the line.
Having a big receiver opposite of Ridley helps him become a more efficient player and an even deadlier threat.
It does make sense as to why the Falcons were trying to trade him. When he was on the field this past season, he did not look like himself. Not to mention, they needed cap space which they could get by trading him or, now, by him getting suspended.
While they do not have much cap space this year, that changes next offseason, they will have more than enough money to pay for Ridley.
Now with the team drafting Drake London, who is certainly a physical receiver, bringing back Ridley for the years to come makes even more sense.
Putting Calvin Ridley next to Drake London will bring out the best in both of them. They would fit perfectly together on the offense
While Atlanta might have been looking to move on from Calvin Ridley a few months ago, they should instead consider signing him to a longterm extension following his reinstatement.
