  • 2016: Devin Fuller – WR – Round 7, Pick 238

  • 2017: Takkarist McKinley – DE – Round 1, Pick 26

  • 2018: Deadrin Senat – DT – Round 3, Pick 90

This is a much more bearable list for the Atlanta Falcons, even with it including one of the most painful picks in the history of the team.

One of the biggest reasons the Falcons were able to make it to the Super Bowl in 2017, was due to their rookies from the 2016 class. When you have to go to the seventh round to find a bust in a draft class, that is when you know it was successful.

Keanu Neal was a great player prior to his unfortunate injuries, Deion Jones has had some stellar years, Austin Hooper and De’Vondre Campbell were very solid, and then Wes Schweitzer made some spot starts on his way to a big contract with Washington. The only guy who never panned out was Devin Fuller who was supposed to step up as a kick returner but had two injury-riddled years before his release.

While you can be optimistic about the Falcons’ 2016 class, it is a much different story than their 2017 class. Ignore the rest of the picks, the Takk McKinley pick hurts a ton. He may have put on a show on stage but he did hardly anything for the Falcons after they traded up in front of the Steelers to take him and the Steelers went on to draft one of the best players in the NFL in T.J. Watt.

Things could be so different right now if the team’s eyes had been set on Watt that night.

Deadrin Senat had one of the weirdest careers as early on he made an impact but after that Atlanta routinely put him on the gameday inactive list until his release in the middle of last season. He is now with the Buccaneers.
