A.J. Terrell was one of the few bright spots for the Atlanta Falcons last season putting together a breakout season proving himself to be one of the best young corners in the game. He put up a great season that rivaled any player in football finishing as the second-ranked corner by PFF trailing only Jalen Ramsey.

The season was made all the more impressive when you consider just how little help he had around him in the secondary. He was often left in coverage for long periods of time as well considering Atlanta finished the season by far with the worst pass rush in football. Terrell was constantly under pressure to keep his assignment locked down knowing he would have to remain in coverage much longer than the majority of the league.

Despite the great season with this degree of difficulty Terrell’s Madden rating is out and Atlanta fans should have some issue with where the corner is ranked.

Despite finishing the season as a clear top three corner Madden has Terrel just barely squeaking in their top ten with an 89 overall rating. While the rating is a big jump for Terrell from last season it isn’t accurate of just how great the corner was in comparison to his peers many of who had far more help around him.

Stephon Gilmore ahead of Terrell, in particular, is a bit head-scratching considering the veteran has slowed a step and certainly isn’t the shutdown corner he has been.  Terrell doesn’t belong in the conversation with Jalen Ramsey just yet, however, there is no denying he was a top-five corner last year and his Madden rating should be indicative of that.

Terrell’s ranking follows a trend Madden set with underrating Kyle Pitts in their top ten tight ends.

There is no denying the Atlanta Falcons are a bad roster this year one that is likely going to compete for next year’s top draft pick.  Despite this, they have great building blocks on their roster who deserved better from Madden rankings and will prove them wrong this season.
