Arthur Smith’s first season with the Atlanta Falcons was impressive in the fact he took a bad roster and managed to keep his team in contention. However, there were odd decisions including continuing to start receivers and offensive lineman who simply put weren’t getting the job done.

While it would be surprising if Smith doesn’t survive what will be a rebuilding year for Atlanta head coaching jobs are becoming increasingly hard to hold onto.

Former Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is tied as the 6th longest tenured head coach in the league. Kyle led the Atlanta offense in 2016 before taking a head coaching job with San Fransisco a head coaching job in retrospect Atlanta should have been the first to offer.

Pete Carroll, Andy Reid, Bill Belichick, John Harbaugh, and Mike Tomlin are the complete list of head coaches who have had sustained success with the same team. As safe as Arthur Smith’s job might seem the league is becoming increasingly mobile requiring teams to be ready to pivot at every position including the head coaching spot.

Let’s be clear here the Atlanta Falcons parting ways with Arthur Smith after this season would be shocking. However, considering how this front office has run the team over the last season and Arthur Blank’s want to win it cannot be ruled out altogether. With this in mind, and heading into what is expected to be a long season for the Falcons let’s take a look at the best replacement for Arthur Smith if he is unable to survive what will be an ugly 2022 season.
