The Atlanta Falcons are closing in on training camp and despite a massive dead cap hit still have well over $11-million in cap space. More than enough room to sign one of the top remaining free agents and give the Falcons another possible trade chip and veteran production.

While even adding an impact veteran isn’t going to change life for Atlanta it could make it slightly more watchable and more importantly give the team a player they can move before the deadline. It is obvious the Falcons will be sellers this season already amassing a massive $63-million dollar dead cap hit making up over a quarter of their cap space.

This season is about developing their young players and determining what type of team they will be on the offensive side of the ball without Matt Ryan. Marcus Mariota won’t be able to run the same offense Ryan did for Arthur Smith last season. He is a far more limited quarterback who needs to be propped up by the roster around him.

While the Falcons have improved at receiver and running back the team has left the offensive line as is. Hardly a winning strategy when you consider this is the same offensive line that allowed Ryan to lead the league in quarterback hits taken and left him consistently running for his life.

Atlanta has added depth pieces to compete for starting roles but as currently constructed the team will head into the pre-season with the same projected offensive line.  Leaving one key area the team could upgrade in free agency if the right deal presents itself.
