It is easy to feel the tone shift around the Atlanta Falcons throughout camp as the team nears their first pre-season game against the Lions. The front office and coaching staff are convinced they are turning around the losing culture that outside of an impressive 2016 season has followed the Falcons for much of the last decade.

Matt Ryan and Atlanta parted ways this off-season and you can feel the shift in identity on both sides of the ball throughout camp. This is a young roster that feels disrespected and has just enough talent to be dangerous this season.

This isn’t to suggest that the Falcons are contenders when they are obviously a year away from having a real shot at returning to the playoffs. However, there are reasons to believe that this team is headed in the right direction and will catch more than one team by surprise this season.

While many fans will point to the departure of Russell Gage and Matt Ryan (and rightly so) it is important to remember the Falcons got better and added more depth at every position aside from quarterback this season.

With a very limited budget, the front office did a great job in free agency and the draft finding ways to add depth and left plenty of reason to believe the team will take a step forward this season.
